Celtic have expressed their disappointment after receiving the news manager Brendan Rodgers will serve a two match ban following a Scottish FA hearing today.
One match is immediate, which means he will miss Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash with Livingston. While another game is suspended until the end of the season - meaning the Northern Irishman, who was fighting his case on the back of scathing comments around the performance of referee Don Robertson and John Beaton on VAR after the Hoops’ defeat to Hearts earlier this month, will be able to take the reins for the crunch Old Firm meeting next weekend.
The current champions acknowledged the outcome while doubling down on their demands to have higher refereeing standards across the Scottish game.

A Celtic Football Club statement said: “Clearly, we are disappointed with the outcome of today’s hearing, although we will accept the panel’s decision.
“The Manager appeared at the hearing today, and his defence was presented robustly and thoroughly.
“Like many other clubs, we will continue to press for the highest standards in relation to the VAR process in Scottish football.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
