HAVING read the letter from “Old John” in Friday’s National, I to would like to know what will happen in the Western Isles constituency at the General Election.

Has Angus MacNeil, the MP currently sitting as an independent having left the SNP, announced if he IS standing? An SNP candidate has already been chosen, so if both run the indy vote is split, and as John says the seat is gifted to Labour. What a bourach!

Surely to goodness the SNP should try to get Angus back on board, unless he is unwilling to do so. A case of country before party springs to mind. This situation would never occur if there was a ruling that when an MP leaves the party he/she was representing when elected, a by-election must take place.
