TRAVELLERS at Edinburgh Airport have been hit with delays as planes queue up waiting to take off due to repairs on the runway.

Edinburgh Airport bosses have said arrivals and departures were suspended as their teams carried out repairs on a “small breakup” on the runway.

FlightRadar also showed a number of airlines, including Ryanair, EasyJet, Jet2, Air Canada, British Airways and Qatar Airways queuing up as they waited for permission to take off.

Passengers took to social media to say they were sat waiting with some Twitter/X users saying they were worried about “missing connections”.

The issue is understood to have started a little before 6am on Thursday, May 9.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “Arrivals and departures were suspended as teams carried out repairs to a small breakup.

“The runway is approaching the end of its life with a full replacement operation planned for next year.

“We always prioritise safety and maintain a regular maintenance regime, and we will continue to complete works where and when required."
