The National:

ONE of the greatest pictures in the debating chamber of the House of Commons has just been taken – and Mhairi Black is the highlight.

The new Independent Group of MPs have taken their seats in the Commons behind the SNP, and alongside the DUP.

Scottish Tory MP John Lamont, sitting on the opposite side of the chamber, posted on Twitter a photograph showing the defectors taking a selfie to celebrate their new position.

That wasn't the best part of the picture, though. The highlight was the reaction of all those around them.

We fully expect there to be a flood of memes made from this.

And while the overall composition of the photograph is what really makes it, the pick of the bunch has to be the look on Mhairi Black's face:

The National:

Many, many column inches have been and will be written on the Independent Group. Political pundits on TV will continue to fill the airwaves with their takes. Wikipedia pages will be written.

And none of it will even come close to summing up the development as well as Mhairi Black's face in this picture.

Her facial expression really is the perfect mood ... and we expect this won't be the last time we see it.

That said, we have to applaud David Linden, too.

To look that optimistic in the House of Commons chamber, even just for a photograph, is an incredible achievement.

You'll also notice Dr Philippa Whitford at the top-right, looking at the Independent Group MPs.

We would love to know what she was saying to them.

And we would encourage you to leave your suggestions of what you would be saying to them in the comments...
